Leeds coach chooses balanced side
Leeds Tykes director of rugby Phil Davies, who will coach the Barbarians in Friday evening's NIG Challenge , has announced a well-balanced squad to take on Leicester Tigers at Welford Road. The squad includes former and current test players Christian Califano, Jean-Michel Gonzalez, Francis Ntamack, François Gelez, Richard Dourthe and Philippe Bernat-Salles (all France), Giancula Faliva (Italy), Alex Codling and Matt Perry (both England), Gregor Townsend and Kenny Logan (both Scotland), André Snyman (South Africa) and Morgan Williams (Canada). There is, however, some doubt over former Springbok centre Snyman, who has been bracketed with his countryman, Justin Swart, a former Springbok wing or full back. Ex-Tiger Paul Gustard heads an impressive list of uncapped players, including former Wasps openside Paul Volley, who now plies his trade in France with Castres, and Leeds regulars Matt Holt, Rob Rawlinson, Alan Dickens and David Doherty. The Barbarians: Forwards: Christian Califano (Agen and France) Matt Holt (Leeds Tykes) Giancula Faliva (Benetton Treviso and Italy) Jean-Michel Gonzalez (Biarritz and France) Rob Rawlinson (Leeds Tykes) Alex Codling (Northampton Saints and England) Enrico Pavenello (Benetton Treviso) Kris Chesney (Saracens) Paul Gustard (London Irish) Paul Volley (Castres) Francis Ntamack (Montauban and France), a.n.other Backs: Alan Dickens (Leeds Tykes) Morgan Williams (Saracens and Canada) François Gelez (Agen and France) Gregor Townsend (Montpellier and Scotland) Richard Dourthe (Castres and France) André Snyman (Leeds Tykes and South Africa)/Justin Swart (TBC) Philippe Bernat-Salles (Biarritz and France) Kenny Logan (Glasgow and Scotland) David Doherty (Leeds Tykes) Matt Perry (Bath and England) The best value rugby tours with Gullivers Sports Travel: RBS Six Nations, Dubai and Hong Kong Sevens, Rugby World Cup 2007, Lions 2009.
