Late change to England's match-day 22
Saturday November 01 2003
Leonard in at prop, two changes on bench
Gloucester prop Trevor Woodman has withdrawn from England's final Rugby World Cup pool clash against Uruguay on Sunday, handing veteran Harlequins prop Jason Leonard his 110th cap - leaving him just one short of Philippe Sella's world record tally.
"Woodman's injury is nothing to worry about and he should be fit early next week," a non-plussed England coach Clive Woodward told Britain's Press Association on Saturday. Woodward was also forced into making two late changes to his bench, with veteran openside Neil Back pulling out, along with powerhouse Northampton wing Ben Cohen. "Cohen got a slight calf strain this [Saturday] morning doing the team run," added Woodward, "and Back has got some bruised ribs which we thought would have been cleared up by Sunday, but they're still a bit sore." Leicester lock Ben Kay replaces his club mate Back on the bench, joining another Tigers second rower, regular skipper Martin Johnson, on the bench, while Sale flyer Jason Robinson joins the list of backline replacements as Cohen's cover. England, who will in all probability top Pool C, have been tipped to beat Uruguay by 102 points - according to the Zurich Computer Prediction - with the late changes not expected to disrupt to their preparations at all.
