Nice & easy

Laws' quiz

Now you really should get 10 out 10 for this one. It's straightforward.

The teams playing this week are the Enzed Farmhouses and the Wild Pampas.

You are the referee. You are given a choice of possible decisions. All you have to do is choose the right one.

If you like you can check your answers, but be honest and do so only after you have made your ten decisions.

1. Time is up as play goes on. The Enzed Farmhouses are four points behind when you penalise the WP. Tana Awklin, the Enzed Farmhouses captain, wants to kick for touch and have the line-out. He asks you if there is time enough.

You tell him you will

a. allow the line-out
b. not allow the line-out.

2. Greg Dunne-Eden, the Enzed Farmhouses prop, is knocked out. The medics revive him. He gets to his feet. He says he is all right and wants to play on. The medic says he is all right to play. You think he is not all right.

You

a. are allowed to tell him to leave the field
b. are not allowed to tell him to leave the field.
c. must tell him to leave the field.

3. A player is wearing a ring on his finger. You tell him to remove it. He says he cannot and demonstrates that he cannot get it off.

You will

a. tell him that he is not to play
b. allow him to tape it well so that it is not dangerous and allow him to play.
c. let him play as he is.

4. Al Pacca, the Wild Pampas wing, kicks the ball into the Enzed Farmhouses in-goal. He and Mils Welly-Tinne, the Enzed Farmhouses fullback, race for the ball, Pacca well ahead and about to dive on the ball which is four metres from the dead-ball line. A photographer is standing in in-goal. The ball strikes him and ricochets back past Pacca to Welly-Tinne who grounds the ball.

You will

a. award the try
b. award a 22
c. award a scrum to the WP

5. The Enzed Farmhouses put the ball into a static scrum. The ball goes straight through and out the other side. Martín Llama, the Wild Pampas flank, breaks from the scrum, picks up the ball and runs with it.

You will

a. let play go on
b. have another scrum
c. penalise Llama

6. In his 22, Mils Welly-Tinne, the Enzed Farmhouses fullback, is under a high kick , catches the ball cleanly and calls for a mark. There is nobody near him and immediately, before you have blown your whistle, he realises he has lots of space and darts to run.

You will

a. let him run
b. blow for the free kick.

7. Filipe Poohma, the Wild Pampas flyhalf, drops for goal. The kick is low and strikes Ritchie Timmeroo of the Enzed Farmhouses on the shoulder. It bounces up and over the crossbar.

You will award

a. the drop goal
b. a drop-out
c. a five-metre scrum

8. Ignacio Ocelot, the Wild Pampas wing, is five metres inside his 22. He kicks for touch and the ball goes out seven metres outside his 22. As he kicks and not late, Ritchie Timmeroo of the Enzed Farmhouses tackles Ocelot. The ball is in touch when Ocelot punches Timmeroo who does not retaliate.

You will penalise Ocelot

a. five metres inside his 22
b. seven metres outside his 22, 15 metres in from touch
c. seven metres outside his 22, 5 metres in from touch.

9. Felipe Poohma, the Wild Pampas flyhalf, drops for goal. Gonzalo Gwannaccos, the Wild Pampas No.8, is in front of Poohma and about 18 metres from the Enzed Farmhouses goal-line. The ball hits the upright and flies back into the field of play where Ritchie Timmeroo of the Enzed Farmhouses catches the ball. Timmeroo is standing about three metres from Gwannaccos and immediately passes the ball to his prop Greg Dunne-Eden who is near Gwannaccos. Gwannaccos tackles Dunne-Edin.

You will

a. let play go on
b. penalise Gwannaccos
c. offer the Enzed Farmhouses the choice of a penalty or a scrum.

10. Justin Fungeray, the Enzed Farmhouses scrumhalf, gets the ball from a ruck and passes flat and low to his right. The pass is straight but strikes the Enzed Farmhouses prop, Dunne-Eden, who is lying on the ground. The ball bounces off Dunne-Eden towards the Wild Pampas goal-line.

You will

a. let play go on
b. award a scrum, to WP.
