How Does it Work?

Lets take Toulouse v Northampton as an example. Sporting Index are predicting that Toulouse will beat the visitors by a winning margin of 15 to 18 points (the Supremacy). So, you have a simple choice to make:

a) Will Toulouse win by MORE than 18 points?
...or...
b) Will Toulouse win by LESS than 15 points, or tie, or Northampton will win?

Spread betting is as simple as that. Lets say that you think Toulouse will beat Northampton by more than 18 points and stake £5 per point on the outcome&

If Toulouse beat Northampton 35 - 10, then Toulouses margin of victory or supremacy will be 35 minus 10 = 25 points. You were betting on Toulouse to beat Northampton by at least 18 points for £5 per point. So you would have just won (25 18) 7 x £5 = £35.  Not bad!

However it could go the other way. Lets say Toulouse end up beating Northampton 45 30, a winning margin of 15 points. Because you bet high at 18 points, there is a short fall of 3 points (18 minus 15). At a stake of £5, this would result in a loss of (18 15) 3 x £5 = £15.
