'I'm lucky to be alive' says Logan
Monday December 13 2004
Glasgow star 'hugely lucky'
Former Scotland star Kenny Logan believes he is lucky to be alive after suffering a sickening clash of heads in Glasgow's Heineken Cup defeat at Llanelli on Sunday. The wing was taken off the pitch at Stradey Park on a stretcher following an accidental clash of heads with home player Dave Hodges. Logan was rushed to hospital where he underwent seven separate brain scans, and admitted: "I'm so lucky, because it could have killed me." But hours later he was well enough to joke: "They didn't find anything in there - nothing new at any rate! "Seriously, it was a very scary experience. I must have been out for the count for a few minutes and I can't remember a thing about my collision with Dave Hodges. "I just recall lying on the special spinal board in the ambulance and realising how lucky I was to be able to feel my fingers and toes. "I knew at that point that nothing bad was wrong with my neck. But from all accounts, it was a hell of a bash - and I suppose it could have killed me. "In the circumstances, I suppose I am hugely lucky to come away from something like that only needing a few stitches." Llanelli had kept their Heineken Cup hopes alive with a full complement of points in a five-try victory by a 38-22 score. The home side ran riot in the final quarter as Glasgow battled back from 12-8 down at half-time to 15-15 after 50 minutes. But from there on in it was virtually one-way traffic as British and Irish Lions assistant coach Gareth Jenkins saw his side take control. For the Scarlets, there was additional welcome news in the return of Wales hooker Robin McBryde for his first game of the season at this level following a worrying neck injury.
