England itching to make amends for June

'We were humiliated in the summer'

England have promised 'payback' when they battle the Wallabies at Twickenham on Saturday. That was the stirring message from defence coach Phil Larder as England prepared to take on Australia after taking a 51-15 drubbing in Australia in June.

Point to prove: Phil Larder

"June 26 in Brisbane was probably the most humiliating experience I've had as a coach," admitted Larder.

"One of the things we vowed as soon as we met up again in the training days was that when met Australia again it was going to be payback time.

"This is a massive game, far bigger than last week. We're going to be up for it and we're really looking forward to Saturday. We have been looking at November 27 as the time we can get back our respect."

Meanwhile, England's head coach Andy Robinson echoed the words of Larder regarding his teams Australia tour disaster.

"We were humiliated in the summer," said Robinson. "They were ruthless and we can't allow them any opportunities.

"If you slip off against Australia they can nail you. They might have some injuries but they'll be fresh enough for this game.

"The euphoria of the last two weeks has been tremendous. But that would all be lost if we don't perform this weekend. I've been involved with sides which have been built up, then they lose one game and they are knocked right down."

Robinson insisted he had no problems with Saturday's referee, Paul Honiss of New Zealand, who has come under some criticism for his handling of the game between Ireland and South Africa at Lansdowne Road on November 13.

Yet it was clear Robinson - a former England forward - had a question mark over Australia's set-piece ploys.

"Australia have an astute way of scrummaging," said Robinson diplomatically.

"They have different tactics that work for them.

"They de-power it in an efficient way. But whatever they throw at us we've got to anticipate legally and make it a real contest."

Larder also warned England to be prepared for a much sterner task than against the Springboks.

"As an attacking force they are poles apart from South Africa," said Larder.

"They have a back division which is the most exciting in world rugby. They ask tremendous questions and destroyed us last time.

"Tuqiri is the form winger. He's in the game a lot. He's dangerous. He's a problem. He runs exceptionally well off Giteau who is on fire at the moment. We are going to have to handle him very carefully."
