Perpignan replace Carter

Medical joker: Ignacio Mieres.

Perpignan have found a fly-half to replace injured star recruit Dan Carter in the form of up-and-coming Argentinean Ignacio Mieres.

Mieres has arrived on the Catalan coast and will take part in his fists training session with his new team-mates on Tuesday. The 22-year-old joins Perpignan from Stade Français and will stay until the end of the season - at least.

A product of the same club as Juan Martin Hernandez - Deportive Francesca in Buenos Aires - Mieres is widely believed to be the successor to El Mago as the Pumas' next great playmaker.

Singed by Perpignan as a 'medical joker' after fly-halves Carter, Steve Meyer and Nicolas Laharrague all broke down, club president Paul Goze hopes to be able to extend the young Argentineans contract by a season.
