Sale Sharks forward Chris Jones was called up for England training on Wednesday as former captain Martin Corry continued his recovery from an arm infection.
Leicester number eight Corry missed the whole session at Bath University, having been put on a course of antibiotics.
England remain confident Corry, who won his 50th cap against Scotland last weekend, will recover in time to face Twickenham visitors Italy in the Six Nations Championship on Saturday.
Jones is due to play for England Saxons against Ireland A in Belfast on Friday night, but he currently remains with the senior England squad ahead of its planned departure to London on Thursday.
Bath lock Danny Grewcock also sat out training as a precautionary measure because of a bruised hip, but full-back Iain Balshaw came through unscathed.
Balshaw suffered a groin strain last week which ruled him out of the Scotland encounter and meant a Test debut for his Gloucester colleague Olly Morgan.
Morgan has again been on stand-by to wear the no.15 shirt this week, but Balshaw took a full part in training and appears to have proved his fitness for the Italy game.
