Spain win qualifier in Moldova

Big win in Chisinãu

In a 2007 Rugby World Cup Qualifier in Chisinãu Spain beat Moldova 40-7. This puts Spain well in charge in Pool A of Europe's Round 3.

It took Spain just three minutes to get on the scoreboard when fly-half Esteban Roqué kicked a penalty goal. Spain went further ahead when Alfonso Mata scored the first try of the match, converted by Roqué who added a penalty goal to make the score 13-0 after 26 minutes. Roqué then added two more penalties to make the score 19-0 at half-time.

Moldova scored first in the second half when they mauled the ball over the line for a try by Sergiu Siscanu, converted by Octavian Manole.

Any hope that the home side might have had of turning the match around was soon dashed when Spain scored two more tries through scrumhalf Pablo and fullback César, both converted by Roqué. That made it 33-7 with 20 minutes to play. Ignacio Martin got the last try, again improved by the trusty boot of Roqué.
