RFU and Gloucester make up

Garvey and Morgan released for Sevens duty

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) and Gloucester made up on Wednesday, after the furore surrounding the non-release of England back Henry Paul for Sevens duty.

'Cherry and White': Henry Paul's club colours

"The RFU announced today [Wednesday] that they had reached an agreement with Gloucester for the release of two players, who are being made available to the 'wider' England Sevens squad until the end of the season," read a statement from the RFU.

"The two Gloucester players are Marcel Garvey and Oliver Morgan. The RFU is delighted that an agreement has been reached and has thanked Gloucester for their support."

Gloucester incurred the wrath of the RFU by refusing to release Paul for last month's Hong Kong Sevens tournament. The club then played the England centre in a Zurich Premiership game against Sale Sharks, despite a warning from the RFU that Paul's selection in the league clash would lead to sanctions.

The RFU then gave Gloucester seven days to meet the Sevens protocol that the RFU say the club flouted by not releasing Paul for Hong Kong and last weekend's event in Singapore.

Complying with the protocol involves Gloucester naming two players, acceptable to the Sevens management and coaching team, for the 'wider squad' who will be made available for the final two legs of the International Rugby Board (IRB) World Sevens Series in Bordeaux (May 28/29) and London (June 5/6).

Now, Garvey and Morgan have been confirmed as those two players.
