Black Ferns Development squad named
Air New Zealand NPC Division Two runners up Hawke's Bays have had nine players selected for the upcoming New Zealand Divisional XV trials. Ironically the team that beat them in final, Nelson Bays only have seven. New Zealand Divisional XV coach Glenn Moore has named a trial squad of 46 players ahead of next month's three-match tour of Fiji. Six players from North Otago, who made the semi-finals in Division Two this year, have been included. Counties Manukau, who lost to Hawke's Bay in the semi-finals this year, and Marlborough have four players each. Poverty Bay, who won the NPC Division Three title have three representatives while the team they beat in the Final last week, Wairarapa-Bush, have two players. The trial squad will assemble in Wellington from October 28 to 30 for two trial matches. A touring squad of 24 will be named on Saturday 30 October. "This camp is the start of our build-up to the Rugby World Cup in 2006," said Rowlands. "We know who our top group of players are and this group of 42 players have shown in this year's Lion Foundation Cup that they have the potential to become Black Ferns by the time the World Cup comes around." The squad includes five players from this year's Black Ferns Test squad - Auckland's Lavea sisters, Vaniya and Justine, their provincial team-mates Mel Ngatai and Aroha Moore and Waikato's Lauren Engebretsen. The camp will take place at the Institute of Rugby from October 23 to 25.
