Cyprus after being Greece

A good win in Athens for Cyprus

While the so-called bigger nations were battling it out over the weekend, there were also matches going on in Tier 2 and the European Nations Cup.

There was a shock result in Tblisi as Georgia defeated Canada 22-15 while Portugal produced a strong showing to get past Namibia 24-12.

Georgia's win moves them sees them make the considerable jump above Tonga in the IRB World Rankings, with Lelos also edging up one spot.

Meanwhile in Division 2D of the European Nations Cup, Cyprus beat neighbours Greece by 33 points to 13. The Moufflons' tries came via Christoforos Thoma, Christos Kasabi, Fidias Efthymiou and George Agathocleous. Jeremy Raftos and James Bertos crossed for Greece.

In the top league, there was World Ranking climbs for Czech Republic, Poland and Serbia. The Czech Republic triumphed 25-13 in Amsterdam to surge six places up to 30th, regaining the ground lost with defeat to Belgium last week, and condemn the Netherlands to a two-place drop to 39th.

Poland's 22-17 defeat of Germany in the other Division 1B encounter means they also regain ground lost on the back of falling to defeat last weekend, climbing five places to 37th to sit directly below the Germans, who slide six spots on the back of this loss in Frankfurt.

Serbia are the other big movers with a six-place climb to 65th after overcoming Switzerland 18-15 in their Division 2B game, a result which means they are now the higher ranked of the sides with their visitors dropped as many places to 68th.

With thanks to the IRB
