Schalk Burger and Juan de Jongh have been withdrawn from the Springbok squad as a result of injuries suffered in Saturday's Currie Cup final.
The pair were scanned in Johannesburg on Monday and were immediately ruled out of the tour.
Burger has a broken rib while De Jongh suffered a hairline fracture to his left ankle. Experienced centre Adi Jacobs - who had been called up as a precaution - has been drafted into the tour squad as a replacement for De Jongh.
Burger is replaced by the uncapped Deon Stegmann of the Blue Bulls while his teammate Zane Kirchner has also been added to squad to restore the party to 30.
"It's a blow to lose players but we've rolled with the punch and already moved on," said Springbok coach Peter de Villiers.
"We trained without them this morning and we already had contingency plans in mind which we've begun to put into operation. It's not an ideal situation but we've all got on with our jobs and are focused only on the players that we have in camp."
Meanwhile Jean de Villiers (groin), Willem Alberts (calf) and Chiliboy Ralepelle ('flu) took no part in either of the Springboks' two field sessions on Monday.
The Springbok team for the Test against Ireland will now be named on Thursday due to the injury disruptions.
"We'll give the players some more time in rehab before we confirm the team," said De Villiers.
"We have the line-up in mind but want to make sure everyone's OK before making the announcement.
The latest withdrawals take to 13 the number of players who have been forced out of the tour by injury. They are: John Smit, Jaque Fourie, Wynand Olivier, Andries Bekker, Fourie du Preez, Heinrich Brüssow, JP Pietersen, Gurthrö Steenkamp, Butch James, BJ Botha, Ricky Januarie, Schalk Burger and Juan de Jongh.
Schedule: November 6 v Ireland (Dublin), November 13 v Wales (Cardiff), November 20 v Scotland (Edinburgh), November 27 v England (Twickenham), December 4 v Barbarians (Twickenham)
Springbok touring squad (revised):
Backs: Gio Aplon, Bjorn Basson, Francois Hougaard, Bryan Habana, Elton Jantjies, Patrick Lambie, Lwazi Mvovo, Ruan Pienaar, Frans Steyn, Morne Steyn, Adi Jacobs, Zane Kirchner
Forwards: Willem Alberts, Bakkies Botha, Keegan Daniel, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Allister Hargreaves, Ryan Kankowski, Victor Matfield, Tendai Mtawarira, Connie Oosthuizen, Chiliboy Ralepelle, Juan Smith, Pierre Spies, Adriaan Strauss, CJ van der Linde, Flip van der Merwe, Deon Stegmann.

They are leaving SA too late, training for freezing soggy Irish conditions in sunny firm Johannesburg conditions, will probably pick De Villiers who is 2 years past his peak and injured, play Kankowski on the flank again with a similar outcome, pick Habana who is 2 years past his peak, and generally do what De V does so often---make a mess--agree that a good coach would make a huge difference--as would better selection- how can you set off overseas without any fit centres?
James O Connor--Kurtley Beale--Drew Mitchell--Adam Ashley-Cooper--Quade Cooper--Maa Nonu--Conrad Smith--Cory Jane--experienced superstars, even the youngsters--compare the SA backs and weep

The coaching staff and Big Vic will do well to get these guys playing as a team, as they'll surely need to. I feel for guys like Alberts, Lambie, Stegmann etc as, while they have been rightly recognised, this tour will be a mighty hill to climb and PdV will be looking to blame anyone but himself for failure. They must resist the temptation to play as individuals to justify their selection. Backline looking woeful now, particularly at centre. BOD will be itching to get stuck in!

Don't think anyone in NH will be underestimating Boks even with players out.

As much as I enjoyed the game, I can not see how two local teams massacre each other like that.
One take away from the Currie cup final match was not that of individual briliance but that of superior tactical coaching. Both Kiwis in the South African rugby club scene have done well to turn their clubs around and begin to show tactical brilliance in defence, ruck and attack.
As proud South African I think it is really time SARU dig deep in their pockets and hire a good Kiwi head coach. It worked for Wales, Australia and certainly for Sharks and Lions.
WP had a star studded team with poor tactical play. Sharks had a strong forward set piece, youngsters in the backline and most significantly.... JOHN PLUMTREE.

I guess I'll have to be more circumspect as to whom I'll back as the Boks combination seems somewhat fragile. Perhaps one underestimates them at peril?
