Former Cheetahs hooker Richardt Strauss believes that Ireland forwards coach Gert Smal's could come back to haunt the Springboks.
Smal served as Jack White's assistant coach between 2004 and 2007 but was replaced when current coach Pieter de Villiers took over the Springbok reins from White.
The former Western Province flanker was soon recruited by Declan Kidney to take charge of the Ireland forwards, a role that has won him hefty praise.
Strauss, who is currently plying his trade with Irish outfit Leinster, is of the opinion that Smal's knowledge of the South Africans could further boost an already confident Irish side.
"They talk about him a lot and have a high regard for him - especially as far as Gert's attention to detail in the line-outs are concerned," Strauss told Sport24.
"Ireland are excited about the Tests, especially the ones against the Springboks and All Blacks. The Springbok Test is the first one they will play in the new stadium. I think the Test will carry a lot of meaning for them. They will also be confident they can do it again after last year's win [against the Boks]."
The Springbok Test is Ireland's first international of the season, with the match taking place on November 6 at Aviva Stadium.
