Springbok centre Jaque Fourie will miss South Africa's end-of-year Grand Slam tour after undergoing surgery on his injured foot.
Fourie picked up the injury in his first Currie Cup game of the season for Western Province last weekend, which ended in a rather costly win against the Sharks.
The 27-year-old is set to be out for at least six weeks before he can even begin rehabilitation.
"I feel sorry for Jaque. Last week's game was his first for WP and he was really looking forward to help us win the Currie Cup," said Western Province coach Allister Coetzee.
"Now he sits with this injury."
The news will come as a big blow for the world champions, who have lost regulars in captain John Smit and prop Gurthro Steenkamp due to injury in recent weeks.
Star scrum-half Fourie du Preez, Andries Bekker and Heinrich Brussow are also out of the trip that will see Peter de Villiers' side play all four Home Nations.
They start against Ireland in Dublin on November 6, followed by Tests against Wales, Scotland and England on each of the remaining weekends of next month, before ending the tour with a clash against the Barbarians at Twickenham on December 4.

Looking forward to BOD making a tool of PDV again then.

One of my favourite players, he has great attitude and is a huge miss for the Boks despite having good backup at centre in JDV & JDJ. No depth after that though although PdV will sadly probably go back to Olivier or Jacobs. Wonder if FSteyn will get a phone call now? Don't fancy PdV's win ratio getting a boost on this tour.
