Springboks and Cheetahs wing Jongi Nokwe is set to be out for up to eight months after undergoing surgery on Monday.
Nokwe tore the ligaments in his left knee two weeks ago and is now set for a lengthy lay-off, ruling him out of the Springboks' end-of-season tour.
"It was very painful on Monday night and I could not sleep, but it feels a little better now," Nokwe, lying in his hospital bed, told Volksblad.
"I will probably start working with the physiotherapist on my rehabilitation as soon as possible and will then see how quickly I can get back."
The winger is confident though that the Cheetahs can go all the way in the Currie Cup this season as the tournament reaches its business end.
"We still have a good chance of playing a in a home semifinal," he said.
"The Sharks just have to do us a favour by beating Western Province. If we can then beat the Leopards with a bonus point, it will happen."
Nokwe leaves hospital on Wednesday and is set to spend some time during his recovery period with his family in the Eastern Cape.

He has to be really dilgent about his rehab with a torn CL. i hope his extremem pace will not be affected, because meaybe one day we will get a Bok coach who knows how to use it. he should have gone to the Bulls - they would have made him a Bok first choice.
