Pierre Spies in training for Springboks

Ruled out: Pierre Spies

Blue Bulls number eight Pierre Spies has been ruled out of Saturday's vital Currie Cup fixture against Griquas.

Powerful forward Spies is struggling with a calf strain after taking part in a conditioning programme followed by contracted Springboks.

He is yet to play in the domestic competition.

Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Danie Rossouw, Wynand Olivier and Morné Steyn will all be considered for the match in Kimberley, the first since being allowed back to provincial rugby.

Gurthrö Steenkamp (broken arm), Gerrit-Jan van Velze (broken thumb), Juandré Kruger (broken hand) and Deon Stegmann (hamstring) are out.

Gary Botha (knee) is, however, expected to be fit for the last round-robin clash of the competition.
