Springbok and Bulls prop Gurthrö Steenkamp's season is over after he broke his arm in Saturday's Currie Cup win over Western Province.
Steenkamp, who excelled for the Bulls in Super 14 and the Springboks in Tri-Nations, will not only miss the remainder of the Currie Cup but also South Africa's end-of-year tour to Europe.
"He broke one of the two pipes in his arm and we are waiting for news on the other one. I suspect it is broken as well," said team doctor Org Strauss.
Unlike most of his Bok team-mates, who are currently on a conditioning programme, Steenkamp was eligible to play for the Blue bulls despite having had a grueling season because he does not have a Springbok contract.

Sadly for other nations he will only be better, because of the rest and recovery time, come next year. Form is temparary, Class lasts a little longer....

Another SARU and PdV mess. The deal was all along that those needing rest would get it i.e. Guthro for playing nonstop all year. And those needing game time i.e. Bakkies Botha and Brussow would get to play now. But it was patently too complicated for SARU and the bok coach so they came up with this solution and now, predictably some players are over played and Guthro is out. Domestic cup is really not that important.
I really think SARU is run by a bunch not too hot on upstairs faculties.
This is awful.

Things are just getting worse for the boks. He was by far the best bok player this year, he scored 3 or 4 tries in the tri nations alone.
