World Cup-winning coach Jake White says he is "ready to do a hospital job" and coach the Springboks in next year's showpiece in New Zealand.
The Springboks were condemned to last place in the Tri-Nations on Saturday with a 41-39 loss against the Wallabies in Bloemfontein.
South African Rugby Union president Oregan Hoskins has already confirmed that coach Peter de Villiers' job will be reviewed later this month "as per normal".
SARU, though, is coming under increasing pressure to axe De Villiers following a disastrous Tri-Nations campaign on and off the field.
South African won only one of their six matches in the competition while the outspoken De Villiers faced a SANZAR hearing for suggesting New Zealand were being given preferential treatment by referees.
With the World Cup only months away, somethings may have to give and White has thrown his hat into the ring should the powers that be decide to get rid of De Villiers.
"I can't bear to watch the Springboks playing like this anymore," the 47-year-old told The Times newspaper.
"I'm ready to do a hospital job and coach the Springboks to the World Cup in 2011 if the South African Rugby Union wants me.
"I've spoken to [former Wallaby coach and Bok technical adviser] Eddie Jones and he's keen to partner up again. Fitness coach Derik Coetzee is also willing to come on board.
"None of us are locked into any contracts with other clubs or countries. We could start next week if Saru wanted.
"I've already made contact with Saru president Oregan Hoskins but he keeps telling me he has to run the idea past the executive council. Well, I'm saying I'm available because what we've seen with the Springboks in the past 10 months is worrying."

In our dreams Jake - the same racist political establishment that sacked you before you had even raised the RWC would NEVER admit they were wrong. You are the right man for the job but the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Springbok rugby is all black my friend.

As much as I agree that PdV and his entire coaching team are way out of their depth and need to be replaced as a matter of priority, I find this latest self-marketing attempt/stunt by Jake White to be very arrogant and in quite poor taste. "Hospital job"? Come on Jake, get over yourself - you really are not THAT good. In case you have forgotten, your actual coaching record was not really that good either, despite winning one RWC with the help of some foreign imports. You must be really desperate for a coaching job, judging by this.

Man, you guys are getting worked up here!!! Love it. FACT - PdV is garbage, he and his team (coaches) are playing predictable rugby and not evolving with the game as the ABs and Aussies are. If we do not think of new and ingenious ways to keep moving forward we will back to the Kamp Staaldraad era before we know it!!
This team of players is exhausted, but showed a lot of character coming back in both games vs AUS - The late last minute loss was painful but at least the guys came out firing in the 2nd half. FACT - This team is the nucleus of our 2011 World Cup team, with the return of a few injured/ suspended players & some rest this team WILL compete at WC 2011, whether you believe it or not. BUT the coach has had his chance & now is the time to replace him, he has not only embarrassed the country with his lack of Media Skills and tact, but also his rugby coaching skills. The Boks have almost done a U turn in their once unrivaled Defence, players used at the wrong times/ games & Subs made at head scratching moments!! This needs to end & end now, before we continue to be the laughing stock of World rugby with a polooka at the helm.
If Jake/ Eddie was the Band Aid for to see us through 2011, that would be perfect!!!

This problem might be more politically intrinsic than is evident on the surface.
Is there anyone who might suggest a better solution than bringing JW back?

Who do you think was the technical adviser in 1998; Iżll give you one guess.
Who's brilliant idea produced the rushed defense; Iżll give you one guess.
Who decided to bring on Eddie Jones, after a horrific season with the Reds I might add.
The problem with your comments is you never give credit where credit is due. You also seem to pull these statistics from some dark damp place and conveniently forget to mention the others, "why does that not surprise me!". The problem with stats is you never get the whole story.
Bring Jake and Eddie back

Egotistic? Perhaps. But at least he has the balls to stand up and offer to make a difference! He knows he is a good coach - can we really argue about that? He is sick and tired of the fiasco that is playing itself off in SA rugby. We used to be proud of our team. They were respected by everyone. But all of a sudden we find ourselves stuck in a deep hole - and this in a space of months! Jake White did not bring any harm to SA rugby. In fact, he moulded the Boks into champions. Can anyone do better then that? I also believe that Allistair Coetzee should be given a chance at the helm in the near future. And it's not because of the colour of his skin! He is a respected coach in this part of the world. He lead the Stormers to there first ever final in the S14. He is doing well at the moment with WP in the Currie Cup. He is by far one of our best coaches in South Africa - and his skin colour aint white.....let's get rid of Hoskins and his silly puppet, De Villiers. I vote for Jake White to take over for the WC. And if the politicians really want to continue with their influence on how the next bok coach must be picked, let Coetzee take over from White after the WC. Respect is not given, it is earned. Jake White have earned my respect.

It's not the coach you need to change it's the old players.
PVD 67% record (finished bottom of the tri nations prior to 2011 RWC ) won a tri nations, won against Irish and British Lions
White 67% record (finished bottom of the tri nations prior to 2007, was his head called for ???) Won RWC 2007 (although everyone knew it was Eddie Jones pulling the strings)
Stop the whinging and look past blaming the coach and look to build a new team.
pete4monc: With regards to Hyneke Meyer, it's a big step up to international level, PVD had success with the U21 and emerging S'Boks on an international level. Who is Rory Kockett, a family friend?
justice_4_all: being nice to me is not in your nature, but I wish you the best of luck with your prayer to god.

Even White is doing it...Pushing Coetzee. Sounds very much he is pushing Coetzee as political token to create a no lose situation for Hoskins. If White is good enough to win the WC and have success, why must he feel obliged to make way for someone else? And if he is not good enough lets have a fair and equal coach beauty contest based on past performance.....please don't just push another coach because of the political points it brings. I am not saying Coetzee is not a good coach, but White is suggesting another steam roller approach where there are a few who have the skills to coach. That suggests he both knows Coetzees talent and also that he knows what a S&*T Hoskins can be.
I so long for a country where skin colour is NOT a major consideration but rather a unified desire to win international contests. Selections and appointments will then take their natural place. White knows perfectly well it is not a coaches place to select his successor at national level. There is no doubt in my mind that it is all about pleaseing Hoskins....Please let the Hoskins idiot go!!!

Interesting comments - all the non Saffers want PDV to stay and we know why.
Jakes strength was always to surround himself with very good people. He could do the job as quite frankly anybody is better than PDV. As has aleady been highlighted on this site he needs to get rid of some deadwood and inject some new and fresh faces (Basson for one) and give others an extended run. If anything the point to take out of this is there are options other than PDV

Gee Jake, as much as I think PDV is way out of his depth, I don't think you are the solution. In fact I would like to see John Mitchell as the Bok coach. I still think he did a pretty damn good job with the AB's and I'm not hung up about having only a South African coach the Boks (it used to be that you could never coach the Boks unless you had played for them).
John Mitchell for Bok coach!

I don't think Jake White is bothered one bit about the Boks poor record in 2010......I see a man here who has been praying for this exact scenario!!
What an easy job to take over, win the 2011 RWC and he'll be revered as the greatest Bok coach of all time................fail and he has the perfect excuse.......it was PDV and Co's fault and if I had more time and if blah blah blah!!!
Smacks of an extremely egotistical man who knows that if he pulls off this coup, he has absolutely nothing to lose. His record of trophy winning from 2004 -2007 is pretty average anyway and in case he hasn't noticed, the game has moved on from 2007. What was working defensively back then is currently being employed now by PDV and Co. and simply does not work anymore.
Just on pure principal for lack of class, I would ignore this egomaniac. I wonder if he was one of the losers booing Habana on Saturday (surmising he was there of course) along with a couple of thousand other idiots??
However, I do wish that the Boks improve significantly before RWC 2011 as it would be a shame for when the Mighty AB's win it and the Bok fans whine constantly for the next 4 years about how much talent has been wasted and that they should be champs if only blah blah.........

@ kiwikev........open your eyes dude....nothing to do with race ?
Nick Mallett - sacked as SA coach when he spoke out and said he wanted to pick the bok team. PDV gets away with anything said and done ?
PDV gets selected as coach above Hyneke Meyer who took the Blue Bulls to a second Currie Cup victory and a Super 14 win ?
Rory Kockett - voted one of the best SA scrum halves of the Super 14 , not even picked in the bok squad?
Quota systems ???
And it's got nothing to do with race ?
Jake might not be the answer to win the world cup , but atleast he would give the Boks and supporters their dignity back.
