Campo completes his walk of shame
Monday December 15 2003
'Longest walk' of his life
Former Wallaby winger, and serial Pom basher, David Campese has fulfilled his side of a bet by parading down one of London's busiest streets with a sandwich board that proclaimed 'I admit the best team won'.
The record-breaking Wallaby had repeatedly tipped England to fail in their bid to hoist the Webb Ellis Cup for the first time and promised on television to take the daunting walk of shame down Oxford Street if he was proved wrong. And so, with the backing of a UK bookmaker, Campese flew to London to fufil his side of the bargain giving the Christmas shopping crowds a little extra to gaze at on a crisp December morning. Campese said: "I thought people would be throwing fruit at me, but I have to say it's still the longest walk of my life! "It's no good shouting your mouth off and not delivering - although to be honest, I was expecting it to be a lot worse than this," Campese added. However, it was not like Campo to be all sweetness and light to the English, the reverse of the board said "3/1 we'll get it off you next time." |
