'No SANZAR agreement' says ARU
Friday September 03 2004
South African reports are misleading
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has poured cold water on South African reports that an agreement on SANZAR broadcast deal had been reached. According to the ARU the three countries - South Africa, New Zealand and Australia - have not agreed to anything.
"Media reports in South Africa that the SANZAR broadcasting proposal has been already agreed upon and presented to News Limited are wrong," The ARU said in a statement on Friday. ARU Managing Director Gary Flowers says discussions are continuing among the three SANZAR partners in a cooperative fashion. "There is certainly no agreement in place yet and we will continue to work through the outstanding issues," said Flowers. "Nothing has been put to News Limited because the SANZAR package has not yet been agreed upon." Flowers also dismissed speculation on the location of any potential additional Australian team. "At the moment we don't have a new SANZAR package let alone a decision about potential locations."
