Scotland ring the changes for France
Thursday February 03 2005
Hogg fit for XVScotland have made seven changes - including two positional switches - from the XV that buckled to the Boks in November for their Six Nations opener against France in Paris on Saturday.
Scotland coach Matt Williams has opted to shift Edinburgh's Hugo Southwell from fullback to inside centre, with Chris Paterson reverting to No.15 after his stint on the wing. Centre Andy Craig returns for the first time since Scotlands 2003 World Cup pool defeat by France; Simon Danielli, Tom Smith and Scott Murray are back after injury; and Jon Petrie will start at openside in the back row alongside Allister Hogg who has made a timely recovery from his recent knee troubles. Other changes made following the 45-10 loss to South Africa at Murrayfield Test see Ben Hinshelwood, Andrew Henderson and Nathan Hines lose starting places, while Donnie Macfadyen and Allan Jacobsen are discounted through injury. On Southwell's move to centre, Williams said: "I made it clear that we had to work hard in that area and attack more and go forward with the ball in hand and I have moved Hugo there with that in mind." Scotland: 15 Chris Paterson (Edinburgh Rugby), 14 Simon Danielli (The Borders), 13 Andy Craig (Glasgow Rugby), 12 Hugo Southwell (Edinburgh Rugby), 11 Sean Lamont (Glasgow Rugby), 10 Dan Parks (Glasgow Rugby), 9 Chris Cusiter (The Borders), 8 Allister Hogg (Edinburgh Rugby), 7 Jon Petrie (Glasgow Rugby), 6 Jason White (Sale Sharks), 5 Scott Murray (Edinburgh Rugby), 4 Stuart Grimes (Newcastle Falcons), 3 Gavin Kerr (Leeds Tykes), 2 Gordon Bulloch (Glasgow Rugby, captain), 1 Tom Smith (Northampton Saints). Kick-off: 15.00 (14.00 GMT) Gullivers Sports Travel offers the best value supporters' tours to Six Nations matches, the Dubai Sevens, Rugby World Cup Sevens and, the summit of rugby, the British & Irish Lions' Tour to New Zealand.
