3N and Islanders stats

Stats for Tri-Nations start and Pacific Islanders' three Tests

We are going to take stats from the three matches played by the Pacific Islanders and stats from the first Tri-Nations Test, New Zealand vs Australia in the Wellington wet. That's Part One.

In Part Two we are going to discuss incidents from the Tri-Nations Test and also from the Test between South Africa and Pacific Islanders in Gosford. Then we are going to deal with readers questions.

In Part Three we are also going to do a general discussion on the dangerous tackle.

After a two-week break we have quite a bit to deal with as the Tri-Nations rushes at us.

1. Tri-Nations

New Zealand vs Australia:

The remarkable statistic in this match is that the All Blacks' penalty count - they went 54 minutes without conceding a single penalty.

The Wallabies on the other hand were much more penalised - in fact, four times under Law 10, which deals with foul play.

This is the number of times the team put the ball into the line-out. In the case of the New Zealand it was 27 times against Australia. 27 times is unusually high.

Australia: 10 (2 lost, 2 free kick)

Scrums:

This is the number of times the team put the ball into the scrum. In the case of the New Zealand it was ten times against Australia's 13.
