Cardiff Blues were dealt a further blow last weekend with the news that prop Gary Powell will require surgery to correct a torn Achilles.
Powell suffered the injury in the match against Leinster and is due to have an operation this week. He is expected to be out for between six to eight months.
The Blues are down to 11 forwards and 11 backs ahead of their match against LV= Cup semi-final against Gloucester and are down to their last two props, Taufau Filise and Scott Andrews with T Rhys Thomas expected to start at hooker.
John Yapp still a few weeks off returning having recovered well from his torn bicep. Sam Hobbs is ruled out after suffering a head injury in the win over Newcastle Falcons, while Gethin Jenkins is on Wales duty against Ireland.
The Blues have also lost hooker Gareth Williams and lock Deiniol Jones. Jones was forced off the field during the Wales defeat to France with a rib injury while Williams picked up a knee problem playing for Wales against Scotland.
And with Bradley Davies in the Welsh squad the Blues have only two second-rows left with Scott Morgan and Paul Tito both likely to start against Gloucester.
Maamma Molitika, Andy Powell, Andries Pretorius, Xavier Rush, Ben White and Robin Sowden Taylor will all be competing for starting places in the back-row.
In the backs, Richie Rees, Tom James, Leigh Halfpenny, Jamie Roberts and Tom Shanklin are all in the Welsh squad leaving 11 backs to choose from.
Gareth Cooper, Darren Allinson, Ceri Sweeney, Dai Flanagan, Dafydd Hewitt, Casey Laulala, Gavin Evans, Chris Czekaj, Richard Mustoe, Ben Blair and Sam Norton Knight will all be aiming for a place in the starting XV.
