Oldest British & Irish Lion passes away

Former Wales and British and Irish Lions outside-half Harry Bowcott has passed away at the age of 97 - he was the oldest living Lion and the oldest Wales international.

Bowcott also played for Cambridge University, Cardiff and London Welsh.

He won eight Wales caps between 1929-33 and played in 20 of the 27 Lions games on the 1930 tour to New Zealand and Australia including all five Tests, scoring six tries along the way.

Bowcott made his debut for Wales in the victory over Scotland at Swansea in 1929, joining his former Cambridge colleague Guy Morgan in the centres, and went on to captain his country the following year against England at Cardiff Arms Park.

Bowcott was one of the main catalysts in Wales' first victory at Twickenham in 1932.

Away from rugby, Bowcott was a civil servant throughout his working life and used his experiences from both on and off the field to good effect to become one of Welsh rugby's leading administrators.
