Rupeni sweats on coach report

Fijian winger to present case to disciplinary committee

Rupeni Caucau's future with Fiji Rugby Union most likely depends upon a report from national coach Wayne Pivac and manager Simon Poll, to be presented later this week.

FRU board member Jeremy Duxbury said that the troublesome player would be called in to present his case to the disciplinary comittee.

Fiji returned from their World Cup qualifiers in Samoa and Tonga, having lost to the former and beaten the latter, on Tuesday.

Caucau pulled out from boarding the plane to Samoa two weeks ago, saying his wife had a swollen jaw from an infected tooth, and also stayed away from the national rugby camps before the Maori and New Zealand trip to play the All Blacks last month after confirming his availabity, because of a local custom.

When he arrived home from Agen in France, where he plays his club rugby, Caucau followed his traditional obligations and presented his daughter to his village in Bua

The Agen flyer left everyone in the dark about playing for Fiji when he followed traditional obligations and took his daughter to his village in Bua when he got in from France.

Meanwhile, the Fijian Rugby Union is still looking for a new sponsor after Telecom Fiji pulled out of sponsoring this season's championship after nine years.

"It's hard to bring a sponsor through," said Duxbury.

"We'll look at introducing a sponsor but we have to be realistic and look at the next three to four years while the competition is still going on.

"There are five products that is without sponsors at FRU the national sevens team, the FRU championship, Fiji Cup competition, the Farebrother Sullivan Trophy challenges, the national Under-21 and Under-18 teams.

"We want to present a tournament that'll work well."
