Weakest Link Rugby Special - part 5
Monday December 20 2004
A bit of Geordan spew
The popular quiz show the Weakest Link produced a Rugby Special in March for charity. It was rebroadcast on Halloween. In charge, as always, was unique Anne Robinson, less the Queen of Acerbia as usual as she seemed to enjoy the hunks around her. The international players taking part were Will Greenwood, Colin Charvis, Brian Moore, Geordan Murphy, Matt Dawson, Simon Taylor, Thomas Castaignède, Matt Dawson and Martin Bayfield. Each round the contestants vote off a player dubbed the weakest link. In order, those who voted off in the first four rounds were Healey, Dawson, Castaignède and Charvis. There is £5,000 available each round. The team managed to bank that in each of the first two rounds. QA is Anne Robinson. QA: Round Five, team. Your total is £13,100. You are down to five players. Another ten seconds is coming off your time. Let's start with the strongest link from the last round. That's Martin. Start the clock. Martin, in rugby union, the Irish club Garryowen gave its name to a type of what - tackle or kick? QA: Will, in Oriental cuisine, cooking pieces of food by moving them briskly in a wok over high heat, is known as stir what? QA: Brian, in music a counter-tenor is a singer of which sex? QA: Geordan, in the children's TV series Trumpton, the fire team led by Captain Flack comprised Pugh, Pugh, Barney McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble and who? QA: Simon, in transport a hotrod is a term for which type of vehicle that has been modified for great speed - a motorcar or a moped? QA: Martin, the two-word term that describes something that has been inverted or turned over completely is upside what? QA: Will, in religion what 'w' is one of the seven deadly sins and is another word for anger? QA: Brian, in education exam is an abbreviation of which word? GM: Bank! QA: Geordan, in fashion the French designer widely credited with creating the little black number is Coco who? QA: Simon, when the moon waxes, the illuminated portion of its surfaces does what - increases or decreases? QA: Martin, in expressions a young man who is self-assured and carefree is often called Jack the what? QA: Will, in food and drink a dry martini is made by mixing Vermouth with vodka or what other alcoholic spirit? QA: Brian, in geography the town of Rugby is in which English county? QA: Geordan, in children's literature which author wrote the 1960s' books Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach? QA: Simon, in history a person who was executed was said to be what - hung or hanged? QA: Martin, in the home the set of cleaning implements consisting of a short-handled shovel and a small sweeper is called a dustpan and what? WG: Bank! QA: Will, in pop music which singer had a 2003 UK single with the song Me against the Music featuring guest vocals by Madonna? BM: Bank! QA: Time's up. You banked £2,100. Who's now ready for an early bath? Who should be dropped from the team? It's time to vote off the weakest link. Ghost voice: The statistics show that Martin is still the strongest link as he got most correct answers. Geordan is the weakest link. Can he survive the vote. QA: Voting over. It's time to reveal who you think is the weakest link. WG: Geordan QA: So, Big Boy, why Geordan? QA: So, friend of Pushkin. QA: Geordan, you are the weakest link. Goodbye. Geordan Murphy wanders off and talks to the television audience. GM: Playing as a fullback I'm used to looking up and seeing a high ball and having pressure put on me. I consider it like that on the Weakest Link when the questions are coming towards you and you're wondering should you bank or just panic and try to get the question right. I think a bit of a conspiracy is going on at the minute. I think Martin, Will and Brian will probably gang up down the line and throw Simon off as he's Scottish. To be continued.............
