Rugby is shown on the satellite channel JSky Sports, which can be viewed by subscribing to it through the satellite broadcaster Sky Perfect TV

Unfortunately, the websites are mainly in Japanese but Sky Perfect TV have a very helpful customer service with English-speaking staff who will assist in getting you connected to their satellite channels. They are the main satellite broadcaster in Japan with many major international English channels. Their telephone number in Japan is 0570-039-888 + 9 to access English language service.

They show plenty of rugby including Six Nations, selected internationals, Super 12 matches delayed, Lions games and some English Premiership. Most pictures have come through Sky Sports in the UK, and English commentary has always been available.

So rugby is not free on their free-to-air TV channels but there is plenty of it available on JSky Sports for 1300 Yen per month!
